Top Model 13 Exit Interview: Brittany

Top Model 13 Brittany Makeover

Brittany Markert, a California girl, looked like she could have made it all the way on “America’s Next Top Model” cycle 13. She had the look, she excelled early on in photos, and she could do the edgy stuff Top Model loves. But she hit the dreaded plateau, and got kicked off after what the judges thought was a lackluster biracial photoshoot, shot by Tyra. In her Real Blogger Exit Interview, Brittany talks about her favorite photos, going to Hawaii and Tyra’s comments about her cleavage.
Real Blogger: Well, you got kicked off, but you got to go to Hawaii, which must have been great.
Brittany Markert: It was a great time for a vacation. Our house was a resort!

RB: Of course, you got the resort after your old house turned was trashed. What was going on with that? It looked horrible.
BM: I think it was clean for the most part. I was actually impressed the whole time I was there. People were Swiffering, mopping, taking trash out, the dishwasher was used once a day. There was a pile of dishes the day Tyra came, though.

RB: Well, you certainly got to stay in a great place in Hawaii. Were you surprised it was in Hawaii, though, and not overseas, like it usually is?
BM: We stayed in a beautiful pace. They usually announce the international destination at panel (when Rae got kicked off), but they didn’t. I was surprised. When they said “Hawaii,” I was really excited. But I did have an excursion to Asia in my head. I was surprised at first. Hawaii isn’t a fashion capital of the world. But then going there, there are so many beautiful landscapes to shoot on, so I got it.

RB: You were guessing Asia? Any reason?
BM: (laughs) Part of me was hoping it was there. And Asia is known for (shorter models).

RB: You must have just loved the Cover Girl commercial of Jennifer playing all over the house.
BM: It was bizarre, there were so many TVs in the house. It was playing everywhere. And it was the whole commercial.

RB: I have to say I loved your impersonation of Erin, which basically involved you screaming really high and loud.
BM: (Laughs) Oh my.

RB: It seemed you weren’t getting along with her. What was going on?
BM: We were all getting antsy at that point.

RB: So everyone was getting on each other a bit?
BM: We had a very loving cycle. Once we got to the Top 8 (Ed. note: Right after Lulu and Ashley were kicked off), there was no drama at all. We were a pretty loving in the house… we all get along really well. They showed that part of me and Erin interacting- it was exaggerated. (We did stuff together), we swam together… We all took a huge bath together. (The drama) was just exaggerated.

RB: You really loved your last photo (the biracial photo with her in Native American garb). But the judges didn’t like it. I thought you captured what you were going for: stoic and elegant.
BM: I thought I did what I was supposed to do. And Jay, on the photoshoot, said I was doing great. He said I was perfectly capturing the spirit of it … It was at the end of the day, the light was going, so I only had 5-7 minutes … 3-4 poses. In the edit, they had me saying that was really fast. So I think I had an idea in mind, and I achieved it.

RB: OK, so you loved that photo. What do you think was your best shoot?
BM: I think I did really well in the scarf photo shoot and the horse photo shoot. On the playback (of the scarf shoot), I did so many different poses and you only see one shot. I feel I offered a lot in that shoot. And the horse photo was my favorite photo shoot as far as the theme. I loved the hair and makeup and the wardrobe, or lack thereof.  That was the easiest photoshoot as far as getting into character.

RB: Speaking of you being topless, there was that one week, when Kara was getting kicked off, that they made a big deal about your cleavage. Tyra said it would have been pornographic on her, and then later, they blurred your cleavage out.
BM: I don’t know what cleavage they blurred out (laughs). That was one of the most absurd parts … I wasn’t censored out earlier. You couldn’t see anything. I think part of it was Tyra standing above us, so she would be looking down (into Brittany’s cleavage). Her comment was completely inappropriate. I don’t think it made (the show) look good.

RB: I was surprised Tyra said that to you.
BM: I wanted to say, “Well, is there no cleavage in Victoria’s Secret?” But I kept my mouth shut.

RB: So what was the worst week for you.
BM: The photoshoot that put me in the bottom two (Ed. note: The “Make Me Tall” episode; LuLu was eliminated). I thought it went well on set. The photo they choose was really embarrassing and awful. And I think the Cover Girl commercial was difficult. I never did a commercial before. Memorizing lines, speaking to the camera, it was an entirely different experience

RB: What’s next for you? Are you going to keep modeling?
BM: I’ve done three photo shoots since the show. And an agency expressed interest with me. I want to give myself to modeling.
